All About
The New Remote

Giving a great product a new breath of life, it simplifies the modern Smart TV, without compromising on style.

Everything Can Be Improved...

At least that is how I approached this project! Collaborating with a group of researchers for my Master's degree, our task was to improve upon an existing product with in-depth qualitative and quantitative research processes.

 The studied "Universal Remotes"

To understand the issues typical users are confronted with when using a Universal Remote, we needed to understand who our user is and how they use their current Universal Remotes.

Getting Started

This project relies heavily on both qualitative and quantitative research methods, all of which were performed on real users.

So, let's dive into Research!

First, we began with a general 20-question survey, asking respondents both general demographic questions and deeper questions about their current remote control.

Once the survey was completed, each team member also independently conducted their own Heuristic Evaluation of their current Univeral Remote, to find any other issues.

After conducting the survey, we began interviewing ideal users, based on the demographic results from the survey.

Once we gathered quotes and other qualitative data, we began creating user personas and developed a User Journey based on the conducted research.

The User Personas and Journey

Then, we Tested!

Although good research from the beginning is important, we still need to test our ideas! We created a low-fidelity paper prototype (and provided several sketches!) to test the button locations, product size, and functionality of our concept.

While conducting these users tests, team members observed users and made note of their comments, as well as any issues that occurred during the test.

And now, It's The Best!

After a (shortened!) semester, our group was able to conduct thorough qualitative and quantitative research, test concepts, and present a more functional Universal Remote!
